Reading the Bible for the first time can be an enlightening experience. In fact, there are many things we can take away from biblical teachings that can be applicable to our everyday lives. In certain verses, we can read between the lines, taking valuable lessons according to our personal experiences, while some other lessons are more obvious. Many of the things we can learn from the Bible are applicable to our own leaves, allowing us to sleep better and feel better in ourselves.

Being Kind Can help us sleep better

In numerous passages in the Bible, we are told to treat others with kindness and compassion as it will lead to tranquil sleep. For example: “When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.” (Proverbs 3:24) Instead of serving ourselves, we are taught to support those who are in worse positions than ourselves, encouraging us to show empathy towards them. These lessons highlight the importance of compassion and how having a good heart can lead to peace and restful sleep.

Seeking Wisdom can bring rest

The Holy Book teaches us that we should seek wisdom through praying, meditating, and reading specific verses from the Bible. For example, Ephesians 4:32 preaches: “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.” We should let our intuition and morals guide us according to what is said in the Bible, and put our trust in God. The Bible fuses together the pursuit of wisdom with the attainment of peaceful sleep, highlighting that a wise and understanding heart brings tranquility and rest.

Practicing Humility and Gratitude is linked to better sleep

Rather than taking things for granted, the Bible teaches us to realize the blessings we have in life, telling us that we should be grateful to God. With humility comes wisdom. Proverbs 11:2 is one example, showing us that we become more enlightened when we are grateful. Verses such as Hebrews 3:14: “We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end” teach us to trust in God, even in times of struggle and difficulty. We are told that trusting in God can bring peaceful, restful sleep, free from anxiety and fear.

The Bible does not preach to harbor resentment or hold onto things. Instead, it tells us to extend forgiveness to others as God forgives us. One example is 1 John 1:9, which states: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” Forgiving others can allow us to sleep without regret as we prioritize our rest. Even Jesus took time to sleep as John 4:6 reads: “Jacob’s well was there; and Jesus, tired from the long walk, sat wearily beside the well about noontime.”

This can be seen in 1 Corinthians 9:27: “But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.” We learn to take control over ourselves and cultivate a strong mindset against temptation. This means refraining from sleeping too long as it could lead to laziness.

The Holy Book provides a guide to separating good from evil with such inclusions as the Ten Commandments, helping us to navigate ourselves through life and to not feel lost. With verses such as Psalm 145:13: “… The Lord is faithful to all His promises and loving toward all He has made,” we learn to be faithful to God’s commandments and promises. We should never waver in showing loyalty to God and others in our lives. We should also be faithful to our bodies need for rest by sleeping and refraining from overworking.

Hope is found in several passages in the Bible such as Isaiah 40:31: “…but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. …” The Bible contains reliable principles to help us cope with life’s problems and anxieties. It helps us to find faith in God’s plan for a better future and encourages us to put our trust in others. Hope can transcend even into our dreams while we sleep, giving us better motivation in our daily lives.

We can be generous to ourselves by sleeping

Generosity in the Bible is a way of life, teaching us not to hoard but to share. As Corinthians 9:11 urges: “You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion.” Acting as good stewards of God’s creation includes caring for the world around us and seeing it as a gift we have to look after. As Matthew 20:28 teaches: “Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” This means putting others above ourselves for the greater good.
