The Christian life is fairly simple, living by modest philosophies such as “love God and love others.” While simple, being a Christian is not always easy.  

Seeking Confirmation About Our Beliefs

Sometimes we may question our faith or seek confirmation about our beliefs. Here are some of the most important and difficult questions that Christians often ask themselves in our quest to be tolerant, loving, and faithful.

Do I Struggle to Forgive Even in Prayer

In Christian teachings, people must forgive other people’s sins for God to forgive their sins. But it is not always easy to forgive and let go. Practicing empathy and reflecting on how God forgives us for our sins will help us become more forgiving to others.

Am I Bottling Up My Doubts?

There are times when we can all have doubts and niggles about our faith. Rather than bottling them up, talk to others, either at church or outside the church about your worries. Remember that it is perfectly fine to ask questions.

Do I Own My Faith?

Deep down, following Jesus should be your decision and not because it is something you were raised with, or you know will keep others happy.

Is My Judgement of Others Greater Than My Love for Them?

God instructed us to love one another, not judge. Rather than focusing on people’s flaws, offer them support and kindness. Always be tolerant of others, as everyone deserves God’s love.

Do I Only Feel Comfortable When Surrounded by Other Like-Minded Christians?

Being with other Christians at congregations and Christian events is comforting and reassuring. But of course, there are many situations when we need to spend time with people who don’t believe or perhaps practice other faiths. It is important to remember that God’s love calls for Christians to truly love others and we should embrace people of all backgrounds and build friendships with people of other faiths.

Am I Worried About Making Mistakes?

God’s love is unconditional, and it is important to remember that as we lead our busy lives. If we make a mistake, learn from it, and grow. God doesn’t expect perfection, He simply wants us to do our best. Running into obstacles along the way does not mean we are on the wrong track.

Am I Challenging Myself Enough When Reading the Bible?

The Bible has so much to teach us, but it is easy to get stuck on our favorite verses. A lot of the Scripture can be a challenging read but don’t be afraid to take on the most thought-provoking parts. You can also start from anywhere in the Bible, and choose a specific gospel or topic to look at, rather than just starting at the beginning.

Am I Giving Out of Necessity or Out of Good Faith?

The Bible is full of verses about generosity and giving. Acts 20:35 said: “In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

Showing generosity and giving should never feel like a chore and something you must do. Instead, it should come from the heart.

When Did I Put Someone Else’s Needs Before My Own?

Putting others first is a central message of God and the Bible. It can also be good for us personally, helping promote satisfaction within our lives, giving us meaning, and even helping us cope with stress while enhancing relationships and quality of life.

Am I Using My Faith to Stick in My Comfort Zone?

Staying in your comfort zone and refusing to move out of it, can often feel like the easiest thing to do. But it is important to remember that when God is calling on us to do something new, we should ask Him for the strength on what he is calling us to do. Going outside our comfort zones can be very rewarding and is the key to personal development and growth.

Am I Too Critical of Other Religions?

If you think that are being too critical of other religions, it is important to remember that respecting people of all faiths helps us to recognize the world is made up of diverse beliefs and perspectives. Christianity does not have a monopoly in the religious world.

Do I Only Focus on Certain Verses in the Bible to Cater for My Own Beliefs and Agenda?

Rather than focusing on chapters of the Bible you are comfortable with and fit your own agenda, open it all up and explore new verses and insights to become fully acquainted with the whole of God’s message.

Should I Worry About the Content of My Social Media Feeds?

Social media is of course something that wasn’t around in Jesus’s time. Social media should reflect our unique personalities, rather than being a forum for God’s work, and you should avoid overthinking what you post.

Am I Judging Other People’s Lifestyle Choices?

Judging others on how they live their lives and the lifestyle choices they make is wrong. It is important to remember that disliking others puts us at odds with loving ourselves.  

Do I Avoid Uncomfortable Questions About Equality Through My Faith?

If you think you are using your faith to avoid questions that you may consider difficult, such as issues involving LGBTQ+ rights and other social justice topics, it is important to remember that Jesus spoke out against injustice, and others should too.

For any relationship to grow, it is important to realize that we all have differences and to respect the differences of our partner. Try to find a balance between adhering to religious rituals and spending valuable time with your partner, so you can grow together as a couple.

Do I Avoid Sharing MY Faith Through Fear Others May Reject It?

When living the life of God’s work, we cannot fear rejection from others who we try to share our faith with. Relax and enjoy your faith and sharing its message with others. If they don’t jump on board, it doesn’t matter.
